Sarah Eckhardt ran in the July 14th, 2020 special election to succeed Kirk Watson for Senate District 14. Sarah is an attorney who served for eight years as a prosecutor for the Travis County District Attorney’s Office. In 2006, she was elected county commissioner of Travis County (Precinct 2). She held that seat until the spring of 2014, where she went on to serve as the Travis County Judge from 2015-2020. As the Travis County Judge, she presided over the Commissioners Court and represented 1.3 million people. Sarah holds a B.F.A. in Theatre from New York University, an M.P.A. from the LBJ School of Public Affairs and a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law.
Sarah serves on the Texas Freedom Network’s Board of Directors and the LBJ School Dean’s Advisory Council. She has also served as a member of the Clean Air Coalition, Travis County Bail Bond Board, Travis County Juvenile Board, and as chairman of the Texas Conference of Urban Counties. A native Texan, Sarah resides in Austin, Texas.
