James brings rare firsthand experience on both sides of the aisle to associations, nonprofits, and corporations navigating the Texas Legislature.
James is a Government Relations Associate at Public Blueprint. He serves as the firm’s substantive advocate, bringing a level of issue fluency that sharpens the firm’s strategy and protects client positions in the details.
Prior to joining Public Blueprint, James served in senior staff roles for both Republican and Democratic members of the Texas House of Representatives. He has a keen sense of the Texas electorate, having supported legislative and special election campaigns at the statehouse level.
At Public Blueprint, James has represented clients across a wide range of industries, from energy and healthcare to criminal justice, education, and emerging technologies. He invests heavily in understanding the substance behind each client issue, a discipline rooted in his research background, developing clear framing and compelling arguments that advance client positions.
Prior to his legislative career, James worked in the Permian Basin as a geophysical contractor conducting seismic and resistivity surveys. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Geophysics from Texas Tech University. A native of Comanche, Texas, James now lives in Austin.
